Project Objectives:
The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) funded research project is the development of measurement and computational methods for determining the exposure of individuals to serve through commercial terahertz sources, which are increased in the medical and safety technology use. Based on measurement results for the characteristics of practical relevance immission (eg power density, directivity, polarization, beam profile) with the aid of numerical calculation method in a frequency range from 100 GHz to 10 THz body internal exposure profiles for electric field strengths, absorbed benefits and temperature variations created by as the basis for proposals should serve the missing personnel safety limits in the terahertz frequency range. For this frequency range suitable, highly spatially resolved simulation models of skin and other critical organs such as the eye, are being developed under the project as well.
